When the times become too literal minded, a strict interpretation on everything, that's when spiritual awakenings come forward, as if to remind people of the deeper poetic nature of reality. And so of course there is a fine literary element present in teachings, a new poetry to be applied to life. And those who do bring this forward to us, they are inherently literary people, by their very nature, and so they have little choice, as they find themselves unable to adapt well to the times and all the strict bent people employ even in higher matters. It's as if the 'Ten Commandment' stuff just got to be too dry and boring and a bit lifeless, too Tea Party, such that it makes one ill. I guess this is why Capra's angel likes Mark Twain. This is why the Irish, a lawless people, had the sensibility that allowed them to save civilization, transcribing the ancient books in all their beautiful powerful imagery.

refrain," It's literary, not literal" Our lives are literary experiences, not to be taken literally. Same with the bible, it is a literary experience, not intended literally; that would defeat the point of reading.
All right, the jews and the tea party are not perfect; judaism the last half-lived remnant of the rampant paganism of a few millenium ago; and the tea party certainly has its faults; (and of course the irish are great) but what about calmly analyzing those social forces rather than being negative; both judaism and the tea party have a long way to go, and are incomplete; but they don't offer nothing, they offer a little, that is good, and yes we should seek more and higher.

Victor, thank you very much. Well put, and you are absolutely right. I was being sloppy and lazy about locating the social forces that make the literary experience necessary, just grabbing at things. Judaism of course is literary gem. And, yes, liberals like myself need to be reminded of the possibilities of ideal government, need to back up and look at a broader picture such as the sort of the mystical ideals present at the origin of a democratic nation, as I was recently reminded reading Bill Moyers' interviews with Joseph Campbell. I know you bring into play your extensive readership, and a legal mind to boot! I appreciate being kept on course!
